History

McKinnon station opened on 1 September 1884 as McKinnon Road, and was renamed McKinnon in 1885.[1]

The McKinnon Road level crossing was fitted with an unusual set of interlocking boom gates operated by a wheel in the signal box, unlike the more usual interlocking swing gates. These were removed when a 3rd track was added in 1987.[2]
